Frequently Asked Questions

Some frequently asked questions about my Southlake tax preparation services.

What documents do I need to bring to my tax appointment?
I provide every client with a clear, customized document checklist before we meet. Typical items include W-2s, 1099s, last year's return, business income and expense records, mortgage interest statements, charitable donation receipts, and any documents related to major life events like a home purchase, marriage, or new business. For business owners, we'll also need profit and loss statements and bank records.
Can you file my taxes if I haven't filed in several years?
Yes — catching up on unfiled returns is one of my most common engagements. The longer you wait, the more interest and penalties accumulate, but the IRS generally rewards voluntary compliance with more flexible payment options than it would offer if it came after you first. I handle prior-year filings, communicate with the IRS on your behalf when needed, and help you get back into good standing.
Do you handle both business and personal returns?
Yes. Most of my business clients file business and personal returns together because the two are interconnected. Working with one CPA who handles both also means nothing slips through the cracks.
Can you help if I get a letter from the IRS?
Yes — IRS correspondence is part of my work. Most notices are routine and resolvable with a clear response, but they're easy to mishandle if you don't know what the IRS is asking for or how to respond. I review notices, respond directly when needed, and represent clients through audits when they happen. Don't ignore IRS letters; bring them to me as soon as you receive them.
When should I start working with a tax preparer?
Sooner than April. Ideally, you have a CPA in your corner before December 31 so we can make tax-saving decisions before the year closes, such as retirement contributions, equipment purchases, charitable giving timing, and estimated tax payments. Once January arrives, we're filing what already happened.
